Developing teaching materials for youth prevention of the hazards of tobacco It has been confirmed by various scientific studies that smoke causes harm to the human body, and with the development of science and technology, more evidences showed that smoke not only causes harm to the smoker, but also the people near them who are forced to breath in second- hand smoke. Scientific findings have proved that even after the smoker has left, there is still third- hand smoke left behind. However, there are more diversified smoking product types, and tobacco companies use many tricks for product marketing. Apart from traditional smoking products and cigars, there are many novel products, such as e-cigarettes and heat not burn tobacco. According to tests of the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, nearly 80% of e-cigarettes contain nicotine, contrary to what was said by the tobacco companies or spokesperson - that e-cigarettes are healthier and may help smokers quit smoking. In order to counteract all kinds of marketing strategies and inadequate concepts about tobacco products, the HPA has jointly developed teaching materials and study sheets for diversified cross- disciplinary subjects. Under the implementation of the Ministry of Education's 2019 new curriculum, the elementary school, junior high, and senior high school teachers focused on aspects including "literacy" and "cross-disciplinary" for on-site teaching, and educational resources are integrated to serve as a model and provide inspiration. We hoped that primary, junior high, and senior high school teachers can help students clearly understand, identify, and criticize the tricks of tobacco companies and make better decisions for their health in relevant courses, so that students will not be mesmerized by marketing techniques and firmly reject the harmful tobacco products. We also hope to educate them on the prevention of the hazards of tobacco in everyday life by developing teaching materials in order to improve the health of youths, which has become one of the main focuses of citizenship education in the world. Starting from the "core curriculum" in schools In order to meet the teaching requirements of teachers and closely match the daily studies of students, the curriculum has breakthroughs in traditional teaching materials for the prevention of the hazards of tobacco. Instead of the traditional advocacies which focused on "Fitness Courses" and "Counseling Courses", as well as school counselors, fitness teachers and school nurses, the new curriculum is designed from the "core curriculum" and integrates the existing curriculum content, with the general education teacher to be primarily responsible for relative teaching, in order for the education of the prevention of the hazards of tobacco to be implemented in the students' learning processes and their everyday lives. Elementary school, junior high, and senior high school teaching materials 1. Elementary school teaching materials: The curriculum design integrates fitness and comprehensive courses. Students can understand the hazards of first, second, and third hand smoking and be aware of third hand smoking in everyday life via teaching exercises, study sheets, role playing and interactive games, such as experiments with burning incense and the online room escape games. 2. Junior high school teaching materials: Integrates nature, fitness, or counseling courses. Students can understand the principles and harms of e-cigarettes from dry distillation and atomization experiments in natural science. The teaching materials that are in touch with youth feelings, such as youth videos, cases and games, can guide students on critical thinking, including questioning, 47 Reducing the Demand for Tobacco
