Smoking rate The smoking rate of junior high school students had decreased from 7.8% in 2008 (male 10.3%, female 4.9%) to 2.8% in 2018 (male 4.0%, female 1.4%) with a reduction rate greater than half thereof (63.8%) (Fig. 3-7). In addition, the smoking rate of senior high school students also decreased from 14.8% in 2007 (male 19.3%, female 9.1%) to 8.0% in 2018 (male 11.3%, female 4.4%) with a reduction rate of 45.7% (Fig. 3-8). In conclusion, the smoking rates of junior high school and senior high and vocational high school students has been brought under control; however, the smoking rate of senior high school students is still higher than the rate for junior high school students, and continuous efforts from the health and education related units are required.
