June 23, 2008 Promulgation of the "Regulations for the Markings and Displays of Venues Selling Tobacco Products". July 2008 Carried out an investigation on the degree of public awareness before carrying out preliminary media promotion for the implementation of new "Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act" regulations. July 17, 2008 Amendment draft to Articles 4 and 35 of the "Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act" and implementation date of Article 4 were submitted to the Executive Yuan. August 21, 2008 Promulgation of the "Regulations for the Custody and Utilization of Revenues and Expenditures of Tobacco Hazards Prevention and Public Healthcare" by the Executive Yuan The Executive Yuan convened a meeting for reviewing the amendments draft to Articles 4 and 35 of the September 2, 2008 "Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act", implementation date of Article 4 as well as amendments draft of Article 22 of the "Tobacco and Alcohol Tax Act". The Executive Yuan convened a second meeting for reviewing the amendments draft to Articles 4 and 35 of September 10, 2008 the "Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act", implementation date of Article 4 as well as amendments draft to Article 22 of the "Tobacco and Alcohol Tax Act". The Executive Yuan convened a third meeting for reviewing the amendment draft to Articles 4 and 35 of the October 23, 2008 "Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act", implementation date of Article 4 as well as amendment draft to Article 22 of the "Tobacco and Alcohol Tax Act". The Executive Yuan has approved the amendment draft of Articles 4 and 35 of the Tobacco Hazards October 30, 2008 Prevention Act in Meeting 3116 and submitted the approved amendments to the Legislative Yuan on November 4, 2008. November 10, 2008 An interdepartmental Tobacco Control Response Center of the Bureau of Health Promotion was established and shall hold periodic meetings every week. November 14, 2008 The Executive Yuan has aprroved the amendment draft of Articles 4 and 35 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act and submitted the approved amendments to the Legislative Yuan. The first (of four) City and County Health Bureau Director Meetings was convened. January 5, 2009 Director-General Chin-chuan Yeh led a team to simulate the process of an on-site audit. January 11, 2009 The new Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act regulations are in effect and established in the National Health Command Center of the CDC. First day audit results from the 25 counties and cities were then released. The amendment draft of Articles 4 and 35 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act have been approved by January 11, 2009 the Legislative Yuan after three readings. The health and welfare surcharge for tobacco products shall be increased from NTD 10 per pack to NTD 20 per pack. Presidential promulgation of the amendment draft of Articles 4 and 35 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act January 23, 2009 on the increase of health and welfare surcharge of tobacco products from NTD 10 per pack to NTD 20 per pack. 152
