48 2019 Taiwan Futures Exchange 7. IT Operations We expanded and upgraded TAIFEX's computing systems as follows to ensure that they met the market's needs: (1) We continued to extend the capabilities of TAIFEX's computing systems to meet the demands on trading, clearing, and information services arising from the rollout of new products and measures. In 2019, these new products and measures included: adding TAIEX Options to the Dynamic Price Banding Mechanism; adjusting the maximum quantity of contracts in a market order; adjusting the block-trading mechanism; expanding the fields for price reporting; launching Nasdaq-100 Futures and TPEx 200 Futures; adding foreign equity index futures to the Dynamic Price Banding Mechanism; adding TAIFEX Gold Futures, TAIFEX NT Dollar Gold Futures, and Gold Options to the block-trading mechanism; adjusting how margins are calculated for combination positions involving short calls and puts; and launching the Taiwan Strategic Indices. (2) In the area of upgrading the trading system's backup mechanism: TAIFEX completed the system architecture and the hardware-backup optimization for our primary and backup computing centers for the regular and the after-hours sessions trading system, thereby increasing the trading system's stability and capacity. In addition, TAIFEX moved closer to achieving the goal of integrating the securities and futures markets' IT-operations infrastructure by finishing the installation of our trading system and networking equipment at the Banqiao data center, completing our removal from the Xinyi data center in 2019, and using the Xinyi center's offline equipment to enhance the Taichung backup center's backup capabilities. (3) In the area of market services, TAIFEX strengthened its backup futures-trading mechanism and reduced the duration of trading interruptions resulting from force-majeure events that crash FCM computing systems by continuing to adjust the interface through which FCMs utilize cloud- based backup terminals. We also made the backup system easier to use by adding new functions recommended by FCMs. As of the end of 2019, we had installed 92 cloud-based backup servers, simplified the process by which FCMs access cloud-based backup terminals, accelerated the processing of FCM applications, and increased the operating speed of the backup terminals. We also supported the integration of securities-and-futures-related organizations' data-transmission networks, and ensured the quality of network services, by continuing to work with three communications companies to monitor internet and broadband installations. (4) In the area of computing facilities and network infrastructure, TAIFEX upgraded the Taichung backup data center's infrastructure, and relocated trading system servers and networking gear from the Xinyi data center (now shut down) to the Taichung data center to increase its capacity, further ensuring the continuous operation of the Taiwan futures market.
